Here for sale we have an Avalon A201E Electro-Acoustic Guitar in Gloss Natural finish. Made in Northern Ireland in 2005, This guitar is part of Avalon's early run of Gold Series guitars from the Irish Newtownards factory before production was moved to Korea. Avalon Guitars was originally founded as The Lowden Guitar Co. in 1989 after purchasing the purpose-built factory, staff and assets of Lowden from receivership. When the licence agreement with George Lowden expired in 2003, Avalon was born, and grew into the worldwide guitar company we know today. Whilst distinct from Lowden, Avalon guitars- especially those made in the Newtownards factory- share Lowden's fantastic build quality and excellent reputation amongst players.

Now discontinued, the A201E can be seen as an ancestor to the ever-popular Pioneer 1-20. An all-solid construction is employed, and comprises a Cedar top, Indian Rosewood back and sides, Mahogany neck and 20 fret Ebony fingerboard with a Rosewood bridge. The body is double bound in Rosewood, with Mahogany/Rosewood purfling and a handsome Abalone rosette. A clear pickguard subtly protects the top from playwear. Gold Grover Rotomatic tuning machines with Ebony buttons are fitted. A Fishman Acoustic Matrix undersaddle piezo pickup is installed, along with an internal microphone. These are wired to a Fishman Prefix ProBlend shoulder-mounted preamp with controls for Volume, Frequency, Notch, Blend, Treble, Contour and Bass.

The Mahogany neck plays very well, with what could be described as a moderately-sized 'C' shape profile which fills the hand nicely for a substantial yet articulate grip which is practical for a wide range of styles and techniques. The Ebony fingerboard is luxurious under the fingers, and with its 16" radius facilitates both chordal, melodic and fingerstyle playing with ease. The smooth lines of the auditorium body feel great in the arms, and with dual strap buttons offers comfort in both standing and seated positions.

The acoustic voice of the Avalon A201E is both rich and balanced. The auditorium body size delivers plenty of volume when required, whilst avoiding the 'boominess' often associated with larger dreadnought designs. The Indian Rosewood back and sides deliver a warm yet detailed low end along with an open and clear midrange. The Cedar top resonates well, whilst adding a rich and shimmering top end to every note played on the instrument. The Fishman Prefix ProBlend is a hybrid system which uses both a piezo pickup and on-board microphone to achieve as natural a sound as possible. The controls offer comprehensive control of your tone in both live and recording situations, making this a very versatile instrument.

    Aesthetic Condition:

Headstock: Overall very good condition. The top edge shows indentations which lightly pierce the finish. This is most apparent to the front edge. Light paint transfer is also present to the top edge. The treble side edge shows a very small indentation by the B tuner which does not pierce the finish. Light scratching to all aspects of the headstock is visible under direct light, as is common with high gloss finishes.

Neck: Overall very good condition. The rear of the neck shows light indentations throughout the register, most notably behind the 4th and 3rd frets where they are lightly felt under the thumb. The fingerboard presents light play wear in the early register. These markings are not felt in the playing position.

Body: Overall very good condition. At the bass side edge of the lower bout the gloss has peeled away, exposing a small area of wood beneath. This appears stable and should not worsen. Light to mild indentations which do not pierce the finish are present across the front face, most notably at the treble side upper bout. Light scratching is present at the bass side of the soundhole, consistent with mild playwear. The sides of the body demonstrate inconsistent patches of light to mild scratching and indentation, most notable to the treble side waist and on the binding at the treble side upper bout. Light scratching to the rear face is visible under direct light, as is common with high gloss finishes.
