Here for sale we have a very special Blazer & Henkes Phoenix Deja Vu Acoustic Guitar in Nitrocellulose Sunburst finish. Hand built by master luthiers Rudolph Blazer and Wilhelm Henkes in the picturesque city of Tübingen Germany in the eclipse of the new millennium. These luthiers made roughly 20 to 25 guitars a year before their retirement, excelling and astounding the guitar community, Blaze and Henkes honed and studied their craft to faithfully recreate the renowned and sought after guitars from days gone with specially sourced materials to enhance and deliver the favoured characteristics. No stone has been left unturned to produce a guitar of the highest quality.

This guitar features a set neck, full hide glue construction comprising of a European Spruce top which was felled at a specific time of year in guidance to the Moon Cycle as Blazer & Henkes believe that is when the Spruce produces the best tone. This top features a handcrafted rosette made out of ivoroid as well as body binding consisting of Maple and Ebony making a ‘Herringbone’ style pattern. This same process is also used for the ‘Zipper’ inlay which runs seamlessly down the centre of the back face which is composed of individual pieces of Maple and Ebony. The Indian Rosewood back and sides have been hand selected, this along with the Mahogany neck, 20-fret Ebony fingerboard and bridge shows the care and attention that has been lavished into this excellent instrument. Featured on this guitar is a set of nickel Waverly open gear tuners retaining to the classic styles of the vintage instruments, whilst a Bone nut and saddle carry on the premium appointments this guitar wears so well.

The Mahogany ‘Rounded V’ profile neck sits comfortably in the hand, and with its Gloss Nitrocellulose finish provides a smooth and comforting surface to navigate, with a ‘well used’ feeling like shaking hands with an old friend. The 16” radius and 1.740” nut width allow for easy fretting in any register, whilst lending itself to chordal playing and finger picking styles in any register, and with the Ebony fingerboard adds a luxurious and grandiose surface under the fingers. The ‘D-28’ body shape feels comfortable in the arms providing a connected feeling when playing, whilst the smooth lines of the body ensure this instrument is comfortable and practical to play in seated or standing positions.

The all solid construction allows the hand selected tonewoods to resonate clearly, the Indian Rosewood back and sides provide a fathomless, rich and warm voicing with an impeccable low end and midrange. The European Spruce top and hand carved Forward Shifted X-Bracing with hand-scalloped top braces ensures increased bass response, whilst complementing the Spruce offering a vast and dynamic tonal landscape. The top voicing and 3.9” sound hole combine to achieve great presence in all ranges whilst offering a voice that can project, cut through and compliment a singer/songwriter setting. With various pick and finger playing styles the voice of the Phoenix can be soft and subtle as well as being loud standing front and centre, offering a guitar that can inspire both the player and the listener as well as offering a feeling that might only be felt once in a lifetime.

    Aesthetic Condition:

Headstock: Overall very good condition, moderate nitro checking is apparent to the finish. The front face demonstrates light indentations in places, visible only under direct lighting at certain angles. The top edge demonstrates moderate chipping and indentation, piercing the finish. The rear treble side edge demonstrates light indentation, chipping the finish slightly.

Neck: Overall very good condition, the rear of the neck demonstrates light indentation throughout the register. This isn't particularly noticeable under the thumb and does not impact playability. The early register of the fingerboard demonstrates very light indentation consistent with regular use.

Body: Overall very good condition, moderate scratching and indentation is apparent beside the soundhole from use of a plectrum. The front face demonstrates consistent light to moderate indentation throughout. Light scratching and very light indentation is apparent to the sides and back, visible only under direct lighting at certain angles.

    Condition of Frets:

The frets demonstrate light signs of use, not affecting playability. This is most notable in the early register where light indentation beneath the high E and B strings are apparent, not impacting the feel or sustain of notes. There is considerable material remaining for any fret work the new owner may wish to perform.

    Current Set Up:

    Truss Rod: N/A

Hardware: Fully functional with light signs of wear and age.

Structural: No concerns or issues to note - the neck is perfectly flat with 11-52 phosphor bronze strings. Adding a higher gauge (12s or 13s) will provide a small amount of additional relief, well within tolerance.

    Strings on Guitar - 11-52

Height of string from 12th Fret- Treble 2.25mm - Bass 3mm

Please be aware that the action on a guitar may move slightly in transit and this measurement is the current height.

There is plenty of material remaining in the saddle for further adjustments. To maintain the original break-angle specification, we have chosen not to lower the action. It is worth remarking that though this report is critical of the aesthetic condition, all this wear is well in line with a played guitar of this age with such a delicate finish. These markings are only really apparent when closely inspected and do not take away from the overall look of the instrument.
