Here for sale we have a very special Fender Custom Shop 1960 Stratocaster in 3-Color Sunburst 'Thinskin' Closet Classic finish. Made by Fender's finest Custom Shop luthiers in the USA in 2001, this guitar is based on the 1960 Stratocaster specification and was completed in 2001. As part of the Time Machine series and a Closet Classic, this guitar has been expertly aged to appear as though it was made in 1960 and very carefully cared for through the years. The finish shows a few small 'dings', lacquer checking, oxidised hardware and aged plastics. Constructed as a Custom Shop team build, this guitar was QC'd by the famous John Cruz, as indicated by the sticker inside the pickguard marked 'Cruz'.

Naturally a bolt-on construction is employed and comprises a Select Alder body, Maple neck and 21 fret Rosewood fingerboard. Gold hardware is fitted including a 6-point American Vintage Synchronized tremolo bridge and Fender/Gotoh Vintage-Style Split Post tuning machines. A trio of Custom Shop '60s Single-Coil pickups are installed, and are wired to a 5-way blade switch, master volume, neck tone and bridge tone controls.

The Maple neck plays beautifully, with the Early '60s 'C' shape feeling nicely slim in the hand for a smooth and articulate playing experience in all registers. Whilst slimmer than many modern Fender profiles, the neck does remain substantial enough for a comfortable grip when chord playing, making the neck feel supremely playable overall. The Gloss nitro finish to the rear assists with smooth navigation of the 25.5" scale, ensuring that fast transitions are an absolute breeze. The Rosewood fingerboard is pleasant under the fingers, with a nice and tight grain that provides a consistent and durable surface across the register. The 7.25" radius works in conjunction with the Vintage-Style frets to produce an authentically vintage playing experience.

The trio of Custom Shop '60s Single-Coil Strat pickups deliver authentic and traditional Stratocaster tones with more than a hint of Custom Shop refinement. The neck is warm and smooth, creating rich buttery tones for your solos and lead lines that have plenty of power to cut through the mix. The middle position is brighter and works fantastically for funky rhythm sounds. The bridge pickup is brighter still without sounding at all brittle or harsh, and with a hot output can drive your amp into a searing overdrive tone for rock rhythm parts. The signature Strat 'honk' can be heard in positions 2 & 4, and completes a very versatile range of tones, just as the Strat is renowned for. The volume and tone controls are nice and responsive, allowing you to make small tweaks when playing and ensuring you remain in full control of your tone at all times. A rare chance to own a genuine piece of Fender history.
