Here for sale we have a Gibson Flying V '67 in Cherry finish. Made in the USA in 1996, this guitar is based on the 1967 Flying V specification when the instrument was reissued into full production where it has remained ever since. A set-neck construction is employed and comprises a Mahogany body, Mahogany neck and 22 fret Rosewood fingerboard. Chrome hardware is fitted, including a Tune-O-Matic bridge and StopBar tailpiece, as well as a set of Gibson Deluxe vintage-style tuning machines with 'Tulip' buttons. The pickups in this guitar have been changed by a previous owner to a set of active EMG humbuckers, with a '60' in the neck and '81' in the bridge. These are wired to a 3-way toggle switch, independent volume controls and a master tone.

The Mahogany neck plays beautifully, with a moderately-sized profile which might be described as a 'C' shape which provides a smooth and responsive playing experience across the register. The gloss finish to the rear assists with navigation of the 24.75" scale, whilst the design of the body ensures that access to the top frets is completely unrestricted. The Rosewood of the fretboard is pleasant under the fingers, and with its traditional 12" radius is practical for a wide range of styles and techniques. Indeed, fast articulate lead lines are just as manageable as chord playing and riffs. At 29 years old, the neck has seen many hours of playing and has developed a real sense of 'mojo' which is very inspiring in the hands.

The pair of active EMG humbucking pickups that have been installed in this guitar deliver thick, crushing tones which are well suited to heavy rock and metal sounds. The neck position is warm and full-bodied, driving your lead lines and solos to the front of the mix with ease. The bridge pickup is of course brighter, and can handle incredible amounts of gain for a saturated, crushing metal tone on your heavy riffing and rhythm playing. The controls are simpler than is typical for a Gibson guitar which is perfect for such a performance-focussed instrument as it allows you ample tone shaping options without intruding on the playing experience. An iconic instrument with a real vintage vibe; minus the astronomical price tag.

    Aesthetic Condition:

Headstock: Overall good condition. Mild chipping which exposes the wood is present to the edges around the perimeter of the headstock, most notably at the rear edge of the tip. At the seam between the headstock and head plate overlay a very light lacquer crack can be seen. This is common with nitrocellulose finish on a guitar of this age. Moderate chipping which exposes the wood is present behind the nut at either side where the neck would make contact with a stand or hanger. A transparent sticker is present between the two E machine heads. Light to mild checking of the finish is present to all aspects of the headstock, most notably to the front face.

Neck: Overall very good condition. The rear of the neck displays light indentations across the register, most notably behind the 3rd, 10th and 14th frets where they can be felt under the thumb in the playing position. Light to mild scratching to the rear of the neck are consistent across the register but not felt under the thumb in the playing position. Light checking of the finish can be seen to the rear of the neck. The fingerboard shows very light scratching which does not impact the playability of the instrument.

Body: Overall very good condition. A sticker saying 'Live and Loud' is present at the bass side of the front face which was applied by a previous owner. We have not removed this as to do so may cause damage to the finish underneath. All aspects of the body display mild indentations which expose the wood, most notably to the rear where the body and neck meet. Light to mild scratching is apparent across all aspects of the body, most notably to the centre of the rear face consistent with buckle rash. Light checking of the finish is apparent to all aspects of the body, as can be expected with nitro finish of this age.

    Condition of Frets:

The frets show notable signs of use. Denting and flattening of the frets is noticeable through the entire register. There is light material remaining for any light fret work the new owner may wish to perform.

    Current Set Up:

Truss Rod: Fully functional. Truss rod tool (5/16" socket) not included.

Hardware: Overall very good condition. The scratch plate displays light 'warping' due to the installation of a battery. This is most notable near the tone control. The metal hardware displays mild signs of past use with oxidation and light scratching, remaining fully functional.

Structural: No concerns or issues to note.

Height of the string from the 12th Fret-1.5mm - Bass 2mm

Please be aware that the action on a guitar may move slightly in transit and this measurement is the current height.

    Strings on Guitar - 10-46

    Electrics:

Fully functional. The original pickups have been replaced with active EMG pickups. The neck pickup is an EMG 60 and the bridge is an EMG 81. The original pots have been replaced with aftermarket pots and a battery has been installed in the cavity. .

The wiring and pickups have been checked thoroughly and present no obvious issues, however when using a clean sound the output from the neck pickup is quite notably higher than the bridge. The pickup heights are within tolerance. When using a distortion sound the issue is much less noticeable. The new owner may wish to complete remedial work or return the guitar to a more stock specification to alleviate this.

    Case & Accessories

    Original Gibson hard case.

Fully functional with mild signs of wear. Small tears to the tolex can be seen, mostly at the edges. The clasps display mild oxidation but remain fully functional. Truss rod tool not included
